smooth sailing

We're four shows into the new season and everything is rolling smooth. This week's episode is a real treat with legendary champion billfish angler Norm Isaacs. We have some events coming up you'll want to mark on your calendars.

Whether you're in Northeast or Southwest Florida, mark the dates of May 13th & 14th on your calendar. That weekend, there are some epic events happening. The Mogan Man will be in Jacksonville that weekend for the Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic and the Dick's Mogan Tour. Friday evening, Capt. Blair will make an appearance at the JKF Classic captains meeting to talk about "addictive kayak fishing." Wiggins will bring some AF gear including the new "Flats Blue" rods to raffle off to raise funds for Project Snook. Saturday, May 14th, the Mogan Man can be caught at Dick's Sporting Goods – 11 am – 4 pm. He'll have some FREE AF stuff, DSG coupons to save you some cash on the purchase of a new rod, and will be selling Blair's Boat Wash from Star brite for Project Snook donations.

At the opposite corner of the state, SWFL Gheenoe Club is putting on the inaugural Project Snook benefit tournament in Matlacha, Florida. The tournament is open to all boats, not just Gheenoes. The captains' meeting will be held Friday evening, May 13th, with fishing on Saturday, May 14th. This photo/catch/release SLAM tournament – trout, redfish and snook – will have payouts for the Top 3 slams and 1st largest of each species. Entries will be limited to 50 boats so get registered now! Visit SWFL Gheenoe Club for all the details. The AF Crew wanted to be there for this event but due to previously scheduled appearances (see above) couldn’t make it happen.

What happens when you put the Mogan Man on the same boat with a renowned angler known for catching big fish? The outcome is phenomenal billfish on the Bay Ranger. The legendary Norm Isaacs joins Capt. Blair outside of Hobe Sound in search of migrating sailfish. An average sized fish in this area runs about 40 pounds but Blair's 8' Flats Blue rod gets a real workout when a 70 pound sail grabs the line. Tune in Friday for "Sailfish Sound" with repeats Sunday, Tuesday and a bonus replay Thursday @ 9:30 pm.

Wee doggies! The Panhandle is known for rockin' redfish and Roy Garner sent us a picture of a real Mogan. Roy posted the picture on our Facebook fan page to show off his new "Flats Blue" rod. Judging by the picture we have to assume he is enjoying the new stick quite a bit. Roy, enjoy being our Mogan of the Week! If you want to be the next Mogan of the Week, post your pictures on our fan page or on the AF Forum. Look for the new Mogan Lounge coming soon!

Breaking the wind,
BillBird
