well blow me down

It looks like another stormy weekend as another front pushes across the state. High winds and a chance for rain might keep most of our fans off the water but they can still get their fix by watching full episodes of Addictive Fishing on YouTube. While you are at the computer, put your fingers to good use by making plans for Valentine’s Day on the Space Coast or sending the kids to a summer camp they'll never forget.

Perfect weather for a fishing seminar. The Mogan Man will join the FINS Wet A Line Tour at the Florida Sportsman Show in Ft. Myers this weekend at the Lee County Civic Center. Capt. Blair will be showing off the different models of FINS situational braided lines and his signature series "Flats Blue" rods by Wright & McGill. Catch Capt. Blair on the main stage @ 1pm as he gives a seminar about inshore fishing techniques. Don’t forget to drop off your donation for Project Snook! The doors open at 10am. See you there!

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, there is still time to make reservations for a trip to Florida’s Space Coast for a romantic getaway. During the month of February, lovers of music and seafood can get their fill. Let the sultry sounds of Kenny Rodgers set the mood. This month’s menu consists of the 45th Annual Grant Seafood Festival which will serve up the most succulent seafood this side of the Mississippi. Check out the full calendar of events at www.space-coast.com.

What I did last summer… Mote Marine is opening registration for summer camp 2011. Kids of all ages can learn about marine ecology, ocean encounters, discover the Florida Keys, get scuba certified or learn kayaking skills to explore the bay. This is a great opportunity for the young to spend the summer in a fun learning environment. Visitwww.mote.org/summerprograms for all the dates and details. Registration starts 2.14.11 but plan ahead because it is sure to fill up fast!

Double down! We have seen some crazy things on the water over the years but this one takes the bait. We have seen one fish get hooked by two different anglers at the same time and it is not uncommon at all to catch two schooling breeds like bluefish or trout on one plug at the same time. But when Anthony DeLorenzi was fishing for hammerhead sharks and his rod doubled over, what he found at the end of his line was not at all what he expected. Anthony was tied into two Mogan black grouper that ate the same bait! After snapping a couple of quick pictures to collaborate this fish tale, both fish were released back into the water. Way to double up there, brother! That is worth being Mogan of the Week.

Adding a few extra twigs to the nest,
