Dan Pasanan on the Aqua Azul |
Dan Pasanan from Ely, Minn. fished with a few friends on the Aqua Azul with Cap. Mecate. They got a sailfish and two nice dorado that fed their whole group of people.
Sam Alhadeff of Seattle fished with some of his friends in his wedding party on the Orion with Cap. Jaime. They caught 3 sailfish.
Victor's sailfish on the Gitana |
Santiago on the super panga Gitana reported, “Victor Stoltz from Alaska and his friend Rick from Seattle fished for yellowfin tuna… we went 64 miles out. We landed 7 tuna, and tagged & released one sailfish. Also, Rick Harder and his friend from South Idaho released 4 sailfish Tuesday. On Wednesday, from Wisconsin Harry Fisher and his friend Fred, with their wives, released 3 sailfish”.

On Thursday, I made the drive down to Puerto Vicente Guerrero with Art and Janette Morrison of the Tacoma area and once again proved my theory of when guiding fly casters like Art, who is an excellent caster; throwing the full line from the bow of the panga, you can’t buy a fish, which makes the guide look real bad. But, with a newbie, we will have fish almost jumping in the boat….Go Figure. There were a lot of jack crevalle there, but they were filled up on the huge quantities of bait on the shoreline. They would make a pass or two at the teaser on the spin rod, but not a whiff at the fly.

Gill nets and long lines revisited: These videos are not new, so you may have seen them before, but they sure depict how floating long lines and gill nets are indiscriminate killers of all varieties of marine life. The first link is of a humpbacked whale, which will eventually breach upon release and give off quite a show. http://www.youtube.com/embed/EBYPlcSD490?rel=0
However, Vince Radice is very much an activist for the conservation of the marine species in Mexico. He released a sperm whale and the calf, with less dramatic shots. But his dialog is very pointed, and asking the department of fisheries why are we killing our resources, for a few people to fish illegally. Vince is also very decent with the camera. Just sign up to World’s Aquarium and follow Vince’s efforts of exposing illegal long ling fishing, saving dorado from illegal export to the U.S, and to saving whales.
