Marlin, caught on the super panga Huntress

As we have been seeing for the last 3 weeks or so, the 82 degree blue water is still hugging the 100 fathom line all up and down the coast, with good clean water from the 100 fathom line to the beach. The offshore fishing is holding up with about an average of 2 to 3 sailfish per boat per day. We are getting a few dorado, and even yellowfin tuna when wanting to make a long 30 mile plus run. Plus, a few blue marlin are showing in the catches.

Mike Bulkley, representing the super panga Huntress with Captain Francisco reports: “Capt Francisco had a great day on Saturday releasing a Blue Marlin about 225 pounds (plus) and going 2 for 2 for raising and releasing 2 sailfish. The blue water is still right at the 100 fathom line and we had strikes from 13 out to 20 miles. The Marlin took a rigger bait at the 20 mile mark SSW of the white rocks”.

Santiago on the super panga Gitana reported: Rene Hansen of Denmark caught and released a sailfish on the fly rod. Jim Schindhelm and Alan went out 60 miles with Santiago, catching 7 yellowfin tuna from 20 to 30 pounds. And on Tuesday, Dean Barclay from Minnesota, with friends Thomas and Eric released 6 sailfish and caught 1 small tuna.

Also, Richard Muckle fished two days with Adan on the panga Gitana II, for 5 sailfish and 2 yellowfin tuna of 25 pounds.

The inshore is basically the same with the best locations being up at the Ranch, down at Puerto Vicente Guerrero, or out in front of the White Rocks. Adolfo, on the panga Dos Hermanos, fishing the Ranch 7 days a week for several weeks now, told me he will probably quit fishing up there when the game fish have consumed the last sardine.

Casey Willis and Devin Page of Kirkland Washington fished a day with Arturo on the panga Janeth out in front of the White Rocks. They caught 6 large jack crevalle tossing the surface poppers, and several black skipjack tuna.

Santiago, on the super panga Gitana, made the long run to Puerto Vicente Guerrero with Mark Olsen of Montana on Wednesday. With his friend Tex, they caught two nice roosterfish and several large jack crevalle.

In Memoriam: Even though it has been a couple of years since his passing, this week would have been Luis Maciel’s 63rd birthday. I know this because for years I used to tease him about being the “Old Man”. You can’t believe how hard my jaw dropped when we were talking and I found out he was actually 2 weeks younger than me.

The mold was broken after Luis passed away. There will never be another, because the fishing and the times have also moved on.
