Z Fish Report (5/19/11)

When I went to the municipal pier this morning (Thursday) to talk to the captains about the fishing report, I sure got a reality check. In the 14 years I have lived here, this was the very first time I was the only one on the pier. Not a single boat went out today. The media in the States has apparently been very successful with their sensationalism journalism.

There were a couple of women selling sandwiches, and they told me only 5 pangas and 2 cruisers went out yesterday; which would be typical of the “low” season in September or October, but unheard of this time of the year. This is too bad, because the offshore fishing is decent, averaging a sailfish or two per day per boat, and the roosterfish action is outstanding.

A couple of very decent catches were posted by Don Grantges, Jim Eldridge and their wives fishing with Cheva on the panga Dos Hermanos II. The first day they went for roosters and caught 5 very nice ones. The second day, fishing the blue water and only 8 miles out, they got 3 sailfish, lost a 4th, and were back at the dock by 11:00.

Daniel Jones also fished with Cheva for a day, and also got 5 nice roosters.

Sierras and jack crevalle action is also excellent for light line or fly fishermen.
