As we are coming out of the full moon phase, the offshore fishing was still very spotty early in the week, but the trend is showing a far better improvement. What is amazing is our normal April cold green water current has not appeared and is still holding off between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. Per the Terrafin Satellite photos, we have 84 degree blue water at the 8 mile mark…Incredible for this time of the year. April has always been the worse month of the year to fish here. 

Santiago, of the super panga Gitana, told me on the pier this morning that late last week Adan on the Gitana II had fished with Danial Goodwin and released 2 sailfish. Then Richard Nelson of Calgary fished two days with Santiago, only managing to release one 80 pound striped marlin. But as the week progressed, Marty Patrick of New Castle, Ontario fished 4 days for 6 sailfish and a small dorado. Then this afternoon (Thursday), Santiago emailed me and said Marty released 4 sailfish and caught 1 nice dorado.

The inshore water is cleaning up and the action should be improving soon. Wade Brillion of Calgary fished a day with Adolfo and got a couple of nice jack crevalle with one of the jacks approaching the 25 pound mark. He caught them on the fly rod. Then, today, Wade and his wife Sherri went down to Puerto Vicente Guerrero with Cheva and me to fly fish for a shot at a possible rooster and some of the many dorado which were down there (yesterday) and close inshore. We were once again snake bit with huge surf. I have only fished down there twice in 10 days, and had high surf both days, with calm water for all the days between. Wade did manage a large green jack on the fly, and his wife took home with jackpot with a 20 pound roosterfish. We never saw a single one of the “MUCHO” dorado.

However, we did have a chance to check out the Fish Attracting Devises (FADs) I had set down there, and they were holding well a few hundred yards off the bar of the river mouth in 50 feet of water. They have a very good growth of algae, but the water was still too discolored. Wade did see a 15 pound jack crevalle from up on the bow, which moved out when we approached.
